What is HOCl and is it actually safe?
Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a compound your immune system produces naturally to fight infection — it’s what your white blood cells use. At the concentrations we use, it’s non-irritating, non-toxic, and safe for use around children, pets, and on food surfaces. It’s been used in wound care, eye drops, and food processing for decades.
How is this different from bleach?
Bleach (sodium hypochlorite) is a harsh, caustic chemical that releases toxic fumes, irritates skin and respiratory systems, and requires protective equipment to use safely. HOCl is a completely different compound — it’s pH-neutral, non-irritating, and breaks down into salt and water after use. Same antimicrobial effectiveness, none of the harshness.
Is this safe to use around babies and toddlers?
Yes. Our Multi-Purpose Disinfectant is specifically safe for use on high chairs, car seats, changing tables, and toys. HOCl is non-toxic and safe even if small amounts are ingested. We’d still recommend keeping all cleaning products stored safely away from children when not in use.
Is this safe around pets?
Yes. All Good Salt Life and Good Salt Pet products are formulated to be safe around dogs and cats. Dog Gone Odor is safe if licked by your pet after application.
Does it have a scent?
HOCl belongs to the chlorine family, so there may be a very faint, clean scent that dissipates quickly. There are no added fragrances, perfumes, or synthetic scents in any of our products.
How long does it take to work?
For disinfecting, spray on the surface and allow to sit for [insert dwell time from EPA registration — typically 30 seconds to 1 minute] before wiping. For odor elimination, the effect is immediate.
Why can’t you ship to Indiana?
Due to current state licensing requirements for certain antimicrobial products in Indiana, we’re unable to ship the Multi-Purpose Disinfectant and Dog Gone Odor to Indiana at this time. We’re working on resolving this. Other products may still ship to Indiana — check individual product pages.

Good Salt Pet is our line of non-toxic cleaning and care products specifically formulated for pet owners. All products are safe for dogs and cats, and most are safe on surfaces pets regularly contact or lick.
What’s the difference between the Multi-Purpose Disinfectant and the All-Purpose Cleaner?
The Multi-Purpose Disinfectant is EPA registered to kill 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, and fungi — it disinfects. The All-Purpose Cleaner is formulated for everyday cleaning and degreasing without the disinfecting claim. For surfaces that need sanitizing (bathrooms, high chairs, pet areas), use the Disinfectant. For regular cleaning, either works.
Are you a certified non-toxic brand?
Our products are formulated without synthetic chemicals, bleach, ammonia, or fragrances. Our Multi-Purpose Disinfectant and Dog Gone Odor are EPA-registered. We are Green Seal certified and dermatologist tested, making our products non-toxic and safe for families.
