During the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States saw a rise in cleaning solutions that promised to sanitize and protect people, pets, and their environments from the high-risk disease that was rapidly taking lives.

The promise gave way to a lesser-of-two-evils mindset, where consumers would purchase a cleanser or product that would protect them from immediate danger, passively ignoring the other harmful ingredients that could threaten their health and safety.
